About Vernon History

Vernon History is a free place for everyone who loves Vernon and its past. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to buy: just stories, videos and photos about the city we call home.

Who is behind it

Vernon History is curated and sponsored by Tim Jones, a lifelong Vernon resident who lives on East Hill. Tim has always been fascinated by the city's history, and he has a lot of firsthand memories of the places in these stories. As curator, he gathers and tells the stories; as the main sponsor, he covers the cost of the site and the videos so everything stays free.

For everyone, including classrooms

The stories are written to be easy to read and share. Families, students and teachers are welcome to use them, link to them and show the videos in class. Every page lists its sources, so it is easy to dig deeper at the Museum & Archives of Vernon and the City of Vernon's heritage register.

Tim is also a REALTOR® with Coldwell Banker Executives Realty. That is why you will see a small "Homes near this story" box on each story page: if a story makes you curious about living in that part of Vernon, Tim is happy to help. You never need to contact him to enjoy the site.

How the stories are made

Each story starts with research from sources like the City of Vernon's heritage register and the Museum & Archives of Vernon, listed at the bottom of every page. Tim then tells the story on video. Some videos use an AI-generated presenter based on Tim, in his own voice, so he can make more of them.

Help us get it right

History is never finished. If you spot a mistake, have an old photo, or remember something we missed, please share it with us.
